GDC Chief Executive resigns

The General Dental Council (GDC) has announced the resignation of Chief Executive and Registrar, Duncan Rudkin. He will leave the GDC at the end of the year to take up the post of Chief Executive of the General Pharmaceutical Council, the new independent regulator for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy premises from 2010. Arrangements are now in hand to recruit his successor.

Mr Rudkin joined the GDC in 1998 as Director of Legal Services, and was tasked with setting up the GDC's first in-house legal department. He has also held other senior management roles at the GDC prior to his appointment as Chief Executive, including Director of Professional Standards, Deputy Chief Executive and Acting Chief Executive. He was appointed Chief Executive and Registrar in June 2006.
