New head appointed
Professor Iain Mackie has been appointed as Head of School of Dentistry, The University of Manchester with effect from January 2010.
Professor Mackie is a Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry at the University. A Manchester dental graduate himself, Professor Mackie also holds the post of Director of Undergraduate Dental Education in the School of Dentistry and is the Faculty Academic Lead for Quality Assurance and Enhancement for Teaching and Learning.
His research, directed towards improving the dental care of children who have suffered trauma to their teeth, has made him a national authority on this subject and he has contributed to national guidelines on the management of traumatised teeth in children.
