Colgate Elyzol is a topical antibiotic gel for in-surgery application by a dental professional. It is an adjunct to the treatment of chronic periodontitis. It is an off-white semi-solid suspension containing 40.2 per cent metronidazole benzoate, corresponding to 25 per cent metronidazole (250mg/g). It is intended for direct application into the periodontal pocket following mechanical debridement.

  • Metronidazole has been used systemically in many studies, and has been found to have an effect on both clinical and microbiological parameters¹
  • Colgate Elyzol is clinically proven to significantly reduce periodontal pocket depth, when used as an adjunct to scaling and root planing

Liquid-to-solid formulation:
Colgate Elyzol gel has a melting point below body temperature and flows freely on application to fill the periodontal pocket. On contact with gingival crevicular fluid. Colgate Elyzol gel becomes more viscous and stays in the periodontal pocket
High periodontal pocket levels of metronidazole are maintained for at least 24 hours4,5

Minimal patient discomfort

How it Works

Colgate Elyzol dental gel is easily delivered into the gingival pocket. The composition of Elyzol dental gel is characterised by a melting point below body temperature, allowing it to flow freely when applied into the pocket — thus assuring a good distribution.
